1. Open and read the “How to write a critique” document in the resources menu.

Describe what is a critique.

A critique involves identifying critical things to say about an article and resisting the temptation to describe rather than analyse. By reading this, to critique is to be able to be reading an article of some sort and writing down the main points that are featured within the article. By dotting down the main points and messages of the articles topic we are able to summarize it into a short paragraph and a better understanding

2. Outline the FOUR stages in a critique.

  1. Introduction
  2. Summary
  3. Analysis
  4. Evaluation

3. Can a critique be positive? Discuss.

Yes a critique can certainly be positive. By saying this it is that at the end, you are to evaluate on the article by weighing up the positive and negative aspects. A critique can either be negative or positive or even both.

4. Critique the accuracy of the following articles:

The Beijing Olympics: Are they a Trap?
The video The Beijing Olympics: Are they a Trap? Presented by, the onion news network. This video piece speaks of how the billions of dollars and hours of work to the building of the Beijing Olympics could possibly just be a trap for the American athletes.

From their thoughts of satellite images the reporters believe that the Chinese are digging large holes which they say is specifically for the Olympics. But not only saying that the reporters believe that they are going to be covering these holes with branches and leaves and hope the American athletes will fall into the hidden holes. The reporters had also reported that the Chinese had been trained as weapons of mass destruction to destroy all our American athletes.

The reporters of the onion network do not supply their report with believable evidence but just stories which may possibly have been just rumours. Through the report they continue to criticise the Chinese without giving any real evidence to support their findings.

The story is very funny and is simply found as a comedic act to amuse the public and the information of the topic The Beijing Olympics is simply not true and no evidence was found at all to create this report to seem reliable at all.

2-Year-Old Donkey Called Up To Pro Donkey Basketball League.
The video 2-Year-Old Donkey Called Up To Pro Donkey Basketball League by, the onion news network. This video speaks of how a donkey has been reviewed by scouts to come and play for the mid western basketball league

The reporters report that Scraps (the donkey) whom had been playing in 5 different fundraiser events before being chosen to step up his basketball game and move a grade higher for that he had been chosen by the scouts of donkey basketball.

From the reporters work they have provided had been evidenced such as footage and in game statistics had been shown. But overall this story is seen as false and exaggerated for that a small charity can’t turn into a league association and scouts and media, it is false.

This story is found very amusing and exaggerated for that there is video evidence of footage of the donkey basketball fundraiser but it is completely made up by having a donkey move up the leagues ranks and become professional. Overall the 2-Year-Old Donkey Called Up To Pro Donkey Basketball League report is false and simply a comedic act.

4. Is this media account correct or reliable? Why?
I believe that the media account is correct and reliable for that it had been written in the perspective of the time being some sort of reporter interviewing everybody and getting their saying and publishing it how its said. But there may be some sort of false writing within the article for that the publisher may of edited bits of what was there to say. But all in all it is a fairly reasonable article.

5. Where else might you be able to find more information about this issue?
More information can be found about this issue through out the internet, other newspaper sites such as smh.com, and also on live news broadcastings such as today tonight.

1. Describe TWO things that you have learnt during this lesson.

Through the lesson today we had a talk about our new project briefcase and we learnt what it required us to do and I also learnt who is going to be in my group through the next project. The briefcase required us to host a show, media watch on our current social justice issues today. In my group there is Francis Tobias and Mark Espinola there is also Anthony Aziz but he will not be present through out this whole project.

2. Identify TWO areas you want to concentrate on during this project that you think need a greater improvement from the last project.

During this project I would like toi concentrate on my time management skills so I can be able to always be organized and ready to hand in work on time. I would also like to have the skill of always referring to the rubric so I can obtain all the set out marks.

3. Discuss TWO ways in which your group could resolve any disputes during this process.

We can resolve all of our disputes by setting out a good group contract so all the rules can be set out from the beginning of the project until the end. Another way we can resolve all our disputes is by giving each other a chance to say what they want to say and any comments can be given back.

Phoenix Mars Lander, Mission

Objectives of the mission.

There are two objectives of this mission and they are
1. To study the geologic history of water, the key to unlocking the story of past climate change.

2. To search for evidence of a habitable zone that may exist in the ice-soil boundary, the “biological paydirt.”

Mission launch including spacecraft

Phoenix was launched on 4 August 2007, at 5:26:34 a.m. EDT. The launch was nominal with no significant anomalies. The launch took place during a launch window extending from 3 August 2007 to 24 August 2007. Due to the small launch window the rescheduled launch of the Dawn mission (originally planned for 7 July) had to stand down and was launched after Phoenix in September.

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory made adjustments to the orbits of three satellites around Mars to be in the right place on May 25, 2008 to observe Phoenix as it entered the atmosphere and to monitor it up to one minute after landing. This information will allow for better design for future Landers.

Currents events in the mission

NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander scraped to icy soil in the “Wonderland” area on Thursday, June 26, confirming that surface soil, subsurface soil and icy soil can be sampled at a single trench.
Phoenix scientists are now assured they have a complete soil-layer profile in Wonderland’s “Snow White” extended trench.

1. List TWO problems that could occur from students selecting their own groups.

Two problems that could occur when students are given the choice to choose their own groups is that there maybe a problem with one of the students in the group because they may not like the people who he had been placed with causing him to not want to do the work in class. Another problem maybe that if students didn’t choose their group correctly by just choosing all his mates he loves to chat with it may cause them to not complete the task before the due date.

2. Which type of student do you think would be selected first?

I think the first chosen students to be placed in a group first would  be a type of student who had worked tremendously well throughout the last project, a student who was always well organized, a student who had showed great leadership to his group every lesson.

3. Why do you think they were selected first?

I clearly think that they would be selected first for that they had worked very well in their last project, they had shown that they had deserved tremendous marks with their final presentation and also that they had gained good remarks from their teachers throughout each lesson.

4. Which type of student do you want selected last?

The type of student preferred to be chosen last would be a student who had shown poor results from their last project, a student who had shown their unwillingness to participate in the last project and also a student who had poor organization and characteristics given to their group.

5. What beneficial characteristics can you offer to your group?

The beneficial characteristics i would bring to my group is all the knowledge and skills i have gathered from all the projects i have completed in the past into this new project to help my group succeed in this project and get an A grade.

In this project i would personally like to improve on;
